Talia Joy

Hi guys. Long time, no see!
I can only apologise for my lack of posts lately - I've recently been coming to terms with the passing of one of my pets..

Anyways, I'd like to introduce you to a girl that really touched my heart. I honestly can't think of why I didn't write about her sooner! Her name is Talia Joy Castellano and in July of last year, she lost her long battle with an intense form of cancer, Neuroblastoma. What made Talia stand out from so many other childhood cancer sufferers, was her determination to keep going. Throughout her six year battle she lived life to the fullest and was adamant that cancer wasn't going to ruin her happiness. Talia became known for her saying "make-up is my wig' and her successful beauty channel, on YouTube. Her passion for cosmetics offered her so many opportunities most of  us won't even experience in our lifetime! Her attitude to life really makes you stop and revaluate your priorities.

The point of this post is to bring awareness that people still CAN lose their battle with the demon known as cancer. Its important, more than ever, that we continue to support the research carried out to find that all vital cure.
If you could spare a few minutes I'd love for you to head over to one of the links below, where you will be given more information and possibly be inspired to get involved!

Thank you X

The Bucket List of a Lifetime

Hi guys. So, I've had the longest break EVER from this blog and it's given me time to think exactly what direction I want to take it in! As from day 1, I've been committed to writing posts that are beneficial to both the readers and myself. It's extremely important to me that the content is enjoyable to look back on in years to come.
With that in mind I've decided to make this a very traditional blog; raising awareness of good causes, sharing my passions and giving you a glimpse of the adventures I find myself on.

Today I have been making a booklet filled with all my bucket list goals. I thought that this little space of internet would be a good way to document these experiences. I know that this is in no way an original idea, but I feel that this is the best way to track and share my life progress, if you will.

My main upload day will be Thursday, although I can't make any promises that there won't be a few more scattered in between!!

I'm sorry that this is a bit of a 'rambling' post; I just wanted to re-introduce myself and invite you to join my little journey.

Hope to speak soon, I leave you with this inspirational wording:

Meet the Pets!

Seeing as this blog is pretty much my diary, I couldn't go without mentioning my furry companions. Each and every pet I have ever owned has become a member of my family. I care so much for them, they may as well be my brothers and sisters (as creepy as that sounds..)!

Rabbits have very slowly become my favourite animal and I put it all down to this little guy! I adopted him when he was four years old, whilst I was doing work experience at a rescue centre. Now rabbits seem to have the reputation of being boring and 'lap pets'. However, if you were to cuddle Aladdin for anymore that thirty seconds, you are likely to get a bite on the face or hundreds of scratches up your arm! Don't get me wrong, Aladdin is in no way aggressive.. He just has a big personality and a lot more energy than I first perceived a rabbit to have! I've managed to train Aladdin to respond to his name, use a litter box and go back in his cage when he is told. He has essentially become my own little dog and I love him to smithereens!

There are times when I never want to speak of these two ever again! They live in my bedroom, so there have been plenty of occasions where I've come downstairs in the morning, having had what felt like a 5 second nap and simply said "the guinea pigs wouldn't sleep"! Having said that, these little monkeys have also provided me with hours of entertainment. We have a relationship similar to that of a mum and toddler - they can be exhausting, but you wouldn't change them for the world.
*Hope you appreciate baby Charlie and Jasper photos ;)

Having grown up with Arthur, I honestly couldn't imagine life without him. As a child, he was often my only playmate, as I was extremely shy and so had a hard time socialising with kids my age. I remember pretending the garden shed was the Tardis and that Arthur was K.9 - that's probably a highlight for me! Nowadays, we take strolls around the village and cuddle up on the sofa when no one is looking (he isn't allowed on the furniture)! It's true when they say a dog is man's best friend.

Like most felines I come into contact with, Tilly seems to view me as another cat, meaning she spends most of her life following me around and finding new ways to pounce on me! I have to admit, I am very much looking forward to the days where all she wants to do is sleep on my lap, however for now I'm just enjoying owning a cat with NEVER ENDING energy!

The Liebster Award

Hello everyone! Today I was nominated for the Liebster award by the lovely Jess from Jesstastics! I've mentioned her in my blog before and I honestly couldn't rave about her enough. She inspires me to keep writing for you guys and her blog never fails to put a smile on my face.
Thank you so much for the recognition, Jess :)

The 11 questions Jess asked me

  1. How long have you been blogging?
I made my blog on December 7th, so just over a month!
  2. What is your favourite song?
There is no way I could choose just one song; music is literally my life! I love anything by Ariana Grande, One Direction, Mcfly and Bruno Mars.. However, I guess my favourite song of all time would have to be Vienna by Billy Joel, as it was the first song I ever felt "connected" to. Things just got deep!!
  3. What's your favourite makeup brand?
If I'm honest, I haven't been too adventurous with makeup brands. I'd have to say Rimmel simply because its reliable and good quality for the price.
  4. What is your favourite memory?
This one's quite recent actually.. Visiting the Harry Potter studio tour was the BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!
  5. Summer or winter?
Although I'm not a huge fan of hot weather, summer is probably my favourite because you can get a nice tan and don't have to lug coats and scarves around with you ;)
  6. Favourite animal?
    Rabbit <3
  7. What is the beauty item you crave the most?
    Probably eyeliner...
  8. Pastels or brights?
    Pastels all the way!
  9. Explain your blogging name?
It's the name I used when creating my YouTube channel.. Seeing as I want to share things from all aspects of life, my blog is basically just me (hence BasicallyKelly)
  10. How would you describe your fashion sense?
A little bit hipster, a little bit quirky but mostly just oversized jumpers and skinny jeans!
  11. Favourite candle?
It would have to be a toss up between pink dragon fruit and soft blanket by Yankee Candle.

I nominate...

Camera Review (Canon SX500 IS)

So after the 'camcorder disaster', I was lucky enough to use the refund money on a camera. It was quite a quick decision and so it could have been another awful mistake!
First off, let's start with the techy stuff:

Pixels - 16.0m
Zoom - 30X optical zoom, 4X digital zoom
Shutter speed - 1-1/1600 sec (default)
LCD monitor - 3.0"
Movie - 1280 x 720 HD
Other features - Image stabilisation, low light shooting, face-self timer, snow and fireworks settings and  full manual control

So far, I am pretty impressed with the capabilities of this camera! Although it isn't the best in lowlight, it is still better than a lot of other cameras I've used. I'm a little suspicious as to whether this camera really is 16mp as a lot of my photos have come out grainy once transferred onto my computer.
I haven't filmed an official video with this camera as of yet, but I have to say the first impressions are good! I wasn't expecting much as the highest quality is 720p, however the audio has already outperformed the camcorder by far and the image quality is just as good as the still pictures. There is also no motor noises whilst filming, which was a very important factor for me - there's nothing worse than having bad audio!

Little pic of one of my guinea pigs, Jasper! This is the first photo I took, so this camera is definitely easy to use straight out of the box.
My jar of accomplishments!
This was my first go at using the macro setting. The quality is a little fuzzy, but then I was standing on my tip-toes so not exactly holding the camera steady!

Overall, I think that this camera is going to give years of beautiful photos. As I am new to photography, I believe that the image quality is just a matter of tweaking a few settings! Considering this is a bridge camera for under £200, I am very happy with the results and would definitely recommend this to all the amateurs out there!

Sale Finds....

So I'm currently writing up posts for the rest of the month and I wasn't planning on posting anything until next week, buuuttt - I think I'm addicted to blogging guys!
I keep looking at my blog and thinking "only five days until I can press that publish button"! Anyway, to stop this from continuing to happen I thought I'd share with you some of the things I've found online, whilst looking for sale deals. I also thought this would be a good opportunity for me to share my fashion taste and hopefully find some relevant blogs to follow ;)

First of all, here's an adaption of the outfit I've pretty much been living in this autumn/winter! I honestly can't tell you how much I love my soldier boots!
Boots -

 Top -

 Trousers -

Cardigan -

Bag -
I am definitely more of a 'prom dress' fan as oppose to a maxi dress and I think this design is simply flawless. As a bonus, this dress is currently in the sale for £24!
Who wouldn't you want to wear an animal character on their chest? Need I say any more?
Fox -

Owl -
These are my absolute favourites! I love the acid wash look so much and I also enjoy wearing patterned leggings with plain, oversized jumpers! The vest reminds me of my childhood - I used to wear velvet tops constantly! I absolutely love the blue colour and for £3 I think this may be in my wardrobe very soon!

Jar of Accomplishments

Hi guys! Can you believe we're almost a week into 2014?
Lately I've been reading through some new blogs and I found this really cute idea that I just had to share with you! (I wish I could remember exactly who posted about it because her blog was set out so beautifully and she seriously sold this little idea to me!)

This sweet and endearing idea is to keep a "jar of accomplishments"! I've done a bit of research and this nifty idea has been around for quite a few years, so I don't know why I never heard about it! The aim of this mini project is to keep a jar for the duration of the year and gradually fill it with pieces of paper. On these pieces of paper, you write anything good that happens to you and anything you feel you have achieved. These can be in relation to accomplishing your new year's resolutions or just little things that you're proud of. At the end of the year, you empty out the jar and read through each note.

I absolutely love this concept and I shall be making one for this year, without a doubt! I think we spend way too much time thinking about the things we have done wrong and hardly ever stop to think about the positives. If we spent even just one day of the year looking at what we CAN do, then maybe we would be able to achieve things we have only ever dreamt of!

Hogwarts Experience

My visit to the Harry Potter studio tour!

About a month ago, I finally got to go to the Warner bros. studio to see the amazingness that is the world of Harry Potter! It truly was the best experience of my life and I just had to share it with you. To anyone out there who loves Harry Potter but still hasn't been - although I doubt there's many of you left - it is honestly worth every penny and you should book your tickets RIGHT NOW!!!
As we entered the studios, we were greeted by the most spectacular Christmas display ever! A huge Christmas tree towered almost up to the ceiling and it was sprinkled with fake snow! Although I was only standing in the entrance, I could already feel the magical atmosphere and it truly felt like I was at home!
For me, the experience began as soon as we joined the waiting line! Whilst waiting in the queue we were able to get touching distance from "the cupboard under the stairs" which was really awesome!
When the tour officially began, we were taken to the cinema room where we were told about  Daniel, Rupert and Emma's first year of filming. When the clip finished, the projector screen lifted up to reveal the entrance to the Great Hall. This was such an epic moment as at that very second, my brain finally registered I was here, I was finally at Hogwarts!!!
One thing that I absolutely loved about the tour was that the props and decorations were placed literally everywhere! I personally loved this because it meant that you had to look everywhere, in order to not miss out on anything. This Mandrake was on the floor, under a bench; most people walked straight past it!

Being this close to Ollivanders was really awesome and I was surprised at how realistic Diagon Alley was. The lighting was a little dark so I apologise for the blue photos.
These were a little too realistic for my liking!
 The beautiful Thestrals!

At this point, I felt so honoured to have been able to go to the studio tour! I got pictures of Privet drive, the wooden bridge, the car and motorbike, as well as Bathilda's house!
Although only a small part of the tour, these paper models were amazing! I was particularly amused by the fact that owls were stuck in each cage for Eeylops Owl Emporium!

Last but not least, the breath taking Hogwarts model! I was half expecting to see shrunken down versions of the characters just walking about the place; it was truly amazing!
